Paralives Hobbies Complete Guide
June 30, 2026
Life in Melino is about much more than work and paying bills. Hobbies are the best way for your Parafolk to express their personalities, enrich their daily lives, build valuable skills – and even pave the way to new careers. Whether it’s playing guitar, painting, coding, or cooking, there’s a hobby for everyone. This guide covers every hobby activity available in Paralives.
1. Hobbies & Skills – Which Comes First?
In Paralives, hobbies and skills are closely intertwined. Your Parafolk improve the corresponding skill by practising a hobby activity, and as that skill levels up, it unlocks new interactions, career paths, and Together Cards.
The game features 23 learnable skills, divided into two categories:
- Knowledge Skills (8 areas) – These represent academic and theoretical fields. Think of them as an “umbrella” that groups related practical skills. Improving a knowledge skill deepens your Para’s understanding of that field and may unlock career opportunities.
- Practical Skills (15 activities) – These represent specific hands‑on activities – like playing guitar, painting, or cooking – which are levelled up through practice and use.
💡 A real example: When your Para plays guitar (a practical skill), they raise their Guitar skill while also slowly increasing the “Music” knowledge skill. In turn, a higher Music knowledge skill makes learning Guitar faster.
In short: hobbies are the process, skills are the outcome – and they feed into each other.
2. Practical Skills – Hands‑On Hobbies
Practical skills represent specific hobby activities – the actual things your Parafolk do. Here are the main practical skills and their associated hobbies:
🎵 Music
- Guitar – Improved by practising guitar and playing songs. There are two guitars available. Different skill levels unlock different songs: below level 5 you can play The Riddle Song, Greensleeves, and Maple Leaves; at level 5 you unlock From the Mountains, Dance of the Dragon, and Valse des Cygnes. Higher skill means more confident performances.
- Piano – Improved by practising on the piano. Three pianos are available. Below level 3 you can play Für Elise, Gymnopédies, and Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement; at level 5 you unlock Rondo Alla Turca, Clair de Lune, and Nocturne in E‑flat Major; at level 7, the ultimate piece – Flight of the Bumblebee – becomes available.
- Triangle – While the game allows learning the Triangle skill, the animation is not yet implemented.
🎯 Music Life Goal: Guitar has its own complete Life Goal Tree, with 4 stages from “Future Performer” to “Guitar Star”, taking your Para from bedroom strummer to stage icon.
🎨 Art
- Art / Painting – Requires purchasing an Easel, found under “Hobby Items” in Build Mode. Place it at home, and your Para can start creating portraits or abstract works. “Art” is also a knowledge skill area.
💻 Technology
- Programming – Improved by practising on a Computer. Five mood effects can influence learning speed.
- Graphic Design – Also practised on a Computer.
- “Technology” is the knowledge skill umbrella that covers both Programming and Graphic Design.
💼 Career connection: Skills like Programming directly link to career paths. Many jobs require a minimum skill level to apply or advance.
🍳 Lifestyle
- Cooking – Improved by preparing meals. Reaching certain Cooking levels unlocks new recipes and career perks.
- Baking – Improved by baking goods.
- “Food” is the knowledge skill that covers both Cooking and Baking.
💪 Fitness
- Fitness – Improved through yoga, exercise, running, jogging, or dancing.
- “Fitness” itself is a knowledge skill that includes two related skills: Exercise and Dance.
🏋️ Fitness Life Goal: Fitness also has its own Life Goal Tree, starting from “Fitness Newbie” and branching into three paths: “Muscle Connoisseur”, “Workout Buddy”, or “Fitness Enthusiast”.
🔧 Practical
- Repair – Improved by fixing broken items. “Repair” is a knowledge skill area.
3. Knowledge Skills – Understanding the “Why”
Knowledge skills don’t directly map to a single hands‑on hobby, but they speed up learning for related practical skills and are often prerequisites for advanced career paths.
The 8 knowledge skill areas include:
- Music – covers guitar, piano, and other instrument skills
- Food – covers cooking, baking, and related skills
- Fitness – covers exercise, dance, and related skills
- Technology – covers programming, graphic design, and related skills
- Art – covers painting and related skills
- Repair – covers fixing and maintenance skills
- Science – covers scientific skills
How to Raise Knowledge Skills?
Your Parafolk can improve knowledge skills by:
- Practising the related practical skill (playing guitar also raises Music knowledge)
- Looking up information on a Computer
- Reading relevant books from a Bookshelf
- Discussing related topics with other Parafolk
4. How to Start a Hobby
You’ll Need the Right Gear
To begin a hobby, you need the proper tools. Here are some key items and how to get them:
- Easel – purchase under “Hobby Items” in Build Mode
- Guitar – buy it in Build Mode
- Piano – buy it in Build Mode
- Computer – for programming, graphic design, and looking up information
- Kitchen appliances (stove, etc.) – for cooking and baking
The Build Mode “Hobby” category contains 20 items, split into two sub‑categories. Of these, 13 are interactive (Parafolk can use them) and 16 support colour swatches.
Multiple Learning Methods
Most skills can be improved in several ways, so you can mix methods to keep progress steady:
- Direct practice – play guitar, paint, code, cook…
- Reading – read related books on a Bookshelf
- Online research – search for information on a Computer
- Social chat – discuss the topic with other Parafolk
💡 Efficiency tip: The “Inspired” mood provides a learning speed boost for all skills. Learning speed is also affected by personality traits and your Para’s life stage.
5. Extra Rewards from Hobbies
🎯 Life Goals
Several hobby skills come with their own dedicated Life Goal trees:
- Guitar – 4 stages, from “Future Performer” to “Guitar Star”
- Fitness – 4 stages, branching into three different routes
- Family, Friendship, Romance, Career, and Big House – each has its own Life Goal tree too
Completing these goals grants rewards and gives your gameplay clear direction.
🤝 Buddy Relationships
When two Parafolk practise the same skill together, they form a Buddy relationship for that activity. There are 8 Buddy types, corresponding to 8 skills:
- Dance Buddy
- Exercise Buddy
- Guitar Buddy
- Piano Buddy
- Programming Buddy
- Graphic Design Buddy
- Cooking Buddy
- Baking Buddy
Most Buddies cap at level 50. Once bonded, practising together grants additional bonuses.
💼 Career Advancement
Skill levels directly affect career progression:
- Some careers require a minimum skill level to apply
- Reaching skill milestones unlocks Career Perks – passive bonuses to work performance, income, or social interactions
- Over 13 career paths have skill requirements
6. Quick Tips
- Start with what fits – choose hobbies that match your Para’s personality; traits affect learning speed.
- Balance practical and knowledge skills – occasionally look up info or read to boost knowledge skills, which then speed up practical learning.
- Watch the mood – “Inspired” boosts all skill gains; get your Para in a good mood before practising.
- Use the Buddy system – invite a friend to practise together – it builds relationships and efficiency at the same time.
- Follow a Life Goal – check the Life Goal tree and pick a path that gives your hobby a clear purpose.
- Plan for careers – if you have a specific career in mind, check its skill requirements early.
- Mix it up – alternate between direct practice, reading, and online research to keep progress from stalling.
