Paralives Having a Baby Complete Guide
June 30, 2026
In Melino, starting a family is one of the most rewarding experiences in the game. Whether you want to continue your bloodline or welcome a child through adoption, this guide covers everything from establishing a relationship to raising your little ones.
1. Before You Start: Setting Fertility
In the Paramaker, click the three dots next to the gender option to open the Advanced Personality options. There, you can set each Parafolk’s fertility status individually. Each Para can be set to one of three options:
- Can get pregnant
- Can impregnate
- No ability
These settings are independent of gender – you can mix and match freely. Important: once the game starts, these settings cannot be changed (unless you use cheats), but you can always choose adoption instead.
2. The Core Process: From Flirting to Expecting
Paralives uses a relationship‑driven fertility system – you need to build a connection before you can start a family. This design encourages emotional investment rather than simply sending two Parafolk to the bedroom.
Step 1: Become Lovers
Choose flirty pink cards whenever possible until the Storyteller offers a card that adds the “Lover” Relationship Label.
While it’s technically possible to trigger the fertility option without being Lovers first, the success rate is much lower. The game’s mechanics reward the romantic path.
Step 2: Open the Baby Conversation
Once you’re Lovers, you have two paths:
- Spontaneous route: Directly choose a flirty card that says something like “Ask to try for a baby right now”. The two will head to the bedroom immediately – but this is a one‑off impulsive move.
- Steady route (recommended): Switch to the “Discuss Relationship” card pile, then use the arrow buttons to find the pink flirty card “Ask if they want to have children together in the future”. Once successful, you’ll see a message that the two Parafolk are now “ready to try for a baby whenever they are prepared”.
If the first attempt fails, don’t worry – try again once the success rate is higher. It’s best to only select this card when the success rate is at least 70%.
Step 3: The Actual Attempt
This is the step that’s easiest to miss. You need to:
- Select both Parafolk (click and drag a box, or hold Shift and click both).
- Click on any bed.
- Choose “Try for a baby”.
💡 Note: If you don’t want a baby but still want some intimacy, choose the “Get intimate” option instead. “Try for a baby” and “Get intimate” are two separate interactions.
3. Pregnancy: Waiting for the New Arrival
Pregnancy Test
After trying, you can click on a Toilet and select “Take a pregnancy test” to confirm success. If the result is negative, you can try again immediately.
You can also visit the Healthcare Center to get a check‑up and find out if you’re expecting twins or triplets.
Pregnancy Length
There are varying reports on duration:
- 24 in‑game hours (about 1 day)
- 3 in‑game days (each trimester lasting 24 hours)
You can manually adjust pregnancy length in the Storyteller settings. Regardless of which setting you use, the birth happens naturally at home.
Conception Odds
Each attempt has a 50% base chance of success. The odds of twins depend on your chosen Storyteller:
- Maxence: 20%
- Ricardo Castello III: 5%
- Stella: 5%
Pregnancy Mood Effects
Pregnancy is driven by 7 mood effects, from conception to birth, including first, second, and third trimesters, and finally “In Labour”. The labour phase lasts about 2 in‑game hours.
4. Welcoming the Newborn
Once the baby arrives, the game clears all pregnancy mood effects and asks you to name your newborn.
A Baby’s Five Needs
Babies have five basic needs to manage:
- Hunger – satisfied by Breastfeed or Bottle Feed.
- Bathroom – babies wet their diapers automatically, which lowers Hygiene.
- Hygiene – an older Para picks up the baby and selects “Change diaper”.
- Sleep – babies fall asleep on their own when tired, but placing them in a crib makes them sleep more comfortably.
- Love – spend time cuddling and playing. Talking to the baby also improves their “Talking” skill, laying the groundwork for the Toddler stage.
Baby Interactions
- Pick up / Put down – you need to pick up the baby before most interactions are available.
- Feed – click on the baby and choose a feeding option.
- Change diaper – after placing the baby in a crib, select “Change diaper”.
- Cuddle – raises the Love need.
5. The Toddler Stage
When your baby grows into a Toddler (ages 2–4), their needs are similar but managed differently:
- Hunger – an older Para picks up the toddler, places them in a High chair, then clicks on the high chair to feed them.
- Bathroom – toddlers can use a Child potty.
- Hygiene – pick up the toddler, click on the Bathtub, and select “Bathe”.
- Sleep – toddlers sleep in a Toddler bed – make sure you buy one.
⚠️ Important: If you leave a preschooler (Baby or Toddler) at home alone, they will be automatically sent to Daycare, and the cost will appear on your next weekly bill.
6. Adoption: An Alternative Way to Grow Your Family
If you’d rather skip the pregnancy process, or if your two Parafolk can’t conceive, you can choose Adoption.
Visit Melino’s Healthcare Center to start the adoption process. Adoption is a fully valid way to build a family and doesn’t require any fertility settings.
7. Life Stages & Growing Up
Parafolk experience 8 life stages, each with its own gameplay mechanics:
- Baby (0–1)
- Toddler (2–4)
- Child (5–8)
- Pre‑Teen (9–12)
- Teen (13–17)
- Young Adult (18–39)
- Adult (40–64)
- Elder (65+)
The duration of each stage can be adjusted in the settings. You can also turn off ageing entirely in the Storyteller settings.
8. Cheat Commands
If you want to skip the natural process, open the Cheat Console (press Ctrl + F1 or Ctrl + Shift + C) and enter:
GETPREGNANT– makes the selected Para pregnant immediately.PREGNANTSTATUS– checks how long until delivery.FORCEBIRTH– forces an immediate birth.
💡 Tip: You can also adjust pregnancy‑related parameters in the Storyteller Settings to create a completely different gameplay experience.
9. Quick Tips
- Build the relationship first – skipping the Lover stage gives very low success rates; the romance path is worth the patience.
- Keep an eye on success percentages – when choosing the “Ask about future children” card, make sure the success rate is above 70%.
- Master the group selection – “Try for a baby” requires selecting both Parafolk together – this is the most commonly missed step.
- Test early – use the toilet pregnancy test right after the attempt to confirm.
- Prepare baby items in advance – cribs, diapers, bottles, and other essentials should be bought ahead of time.
- Don’t leave babies alone – preschoolers will be sent to Daycare, which costs extra.
- Adoption is a solid backup – if natural pregnancy is difficult or you don’t want to go through the romance route, just visit the hospital.
- Watch your Storyteller choice – different Storytellers affect twin odds; Maxence gives 20%, while Ricardo and Stella give only 5%.
Final Word
Starting a family in Melino is a journey that requires patience – from building a relationship and unlocking the baby conversation, to the actual attempt and waiting for the new arrival. Although the process is more involved than in some similar games, every step makes the final reward even more special. Whether you choose natural pregnancy or adoption, welcoming a new life into your household is one of the warmest moments in Melino.
Happy family‑building!
